Cultural festival to be held in Red River Delta region (05-10-2009 01:24:21)
A cultural, sports and tourism festival will be held for the first time in the Red River Delta region.

The festival which will take place in the northern province of Thai Binh from October 14-16, aims to preserve and develop the cultural features of the wet rice civilization as well as publicizing images of Vietnam’s Northern provinces along the Red River.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, ten northern provinces and cities including Bac Ninh, Hanoi, Ha Nam, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thai Binh and Vinh Phuc will take part in the event.

Numerous activities will be held such as a photography exhibition featuring the countryside and people of the Red River Delta provinces, an agriculture contest for farmers, a sports tournaments and folk games.

A seminar on developing tourism in the Red River Delta region will be held along with a meeting to review the 20-year construction of a cultural village in northern Vietnam.

As it is home to a large amount of the country’s population, the Red River Delta region has plenty human resources and skilled workers, which has resulted in the local market having a strong purchasing power. It has an old age history, many festivals, historical sites and traditional handicraft villages.

Together with the Mekong Delta region, the country’s largest granary, it always plays a key role in the nation’s socio-economic development strategy.
